Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 24
Russian invaders conducted 23 unsuccessful assault attempts to dislodge Ukrainian units from bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
The enemy is actively using operational-tactical aviation and FPV-type quadcopters, conducting assault operations with the support of armored vehicles. There has been an increase in the number of artillery shelling. In the operational zone of the Joint Forces Operation on Khortytsia, the number of enemy artillery shelling exceeds 1000 per day.
During the day, there were 48 combat clashes. The enemy delivered 29 airstrikes and conducted 26 missile attacks on the positions of our troops and civilian settlements.
As a result of Russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties among the civilian population. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
The situation at the frontlines
The operational situation in the east and south of Ukraine remains challenging.
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains without significant changes. There are no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Identified units of the Belarusian armed forces are performing tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage-reconnaissance activities, fires on populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive obstacles along the state border of Ukraine.
Over 20 populated areas, including Kliusy, Bleshnia, Leonivka in the Chernihiv region; Seredyna-Buda, Prohres, Volfyne, Basivka, Myropillia in the Sumy region; Huriiv Kozachok, Veterynarne, Hatyshche, Budarky, Topoli in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 15 enemy attacks in the area of Synkivka in the Kharkiv region and Stelmakhivka in the Luhansk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense of our forces. Occupiers carried out air strikes in the areas of Petropavlivka and Kyslivka in the Kharkiv region. About 10 populated areas, including Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. They delivered air strikes near Yampolivka and Torskoye in the Donetsk region. The enemy shelled with artillery and mortars more than 10 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torskoye, Serebrianka, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, Rozdolivka in the Donetsk region.
In the Bakhmut direction, the defense forces repelled three enemy attacks near Bohdanivka, Klishchivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. Approximately 10 populated areas, including Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchivka, Andriivka, and New York in the Donetsk region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Avdiivka direction, our defenders repelled 10 enemy attacks east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, and Avdiivka, and another 15 in the areas of Pervomaiske and Nevelske in the Donetsk region, where the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to break through the defense of our troops. Additionally, the enemy carried out aerial strikes in the areas of the settlements Ocheretine, Tonenke, and Avdiivka in the Donetsk region. Artillery and mortar shelling affected Keramik, Ocheretyne, Stepove, Avdiivka, Karlivka, and Netailove in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, the defense forces continue to restrain the enemy in the areas of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region. Here, the enemy, with the support of aviation, carried out 3 unsuccessful attacks on the positions of our defenders. Under the artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers, the settlements of Oleksandrivka, Krasnohorivka, Kurakhove, Maryinka, Katerynivka, and Yelyzavetivka were affected.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. They delivered an aviation strike in the area of Staromykhailivka in the Donetsk region. About 10 populated areas, including Vodyane, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Blahodatne, Urozhayne, and Rivnopil in the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled three attacks near Robotyne and south of Huliaipole in the Zaporizhzhia region, where the enemy unsuccessfully attempted to displace our units from their positions. About 20 populated areas, including Levadne, Huliaipole, Huliaipilske, Orikhiv, Novoandriivka, and Piatykhatky in the Zaporizhzhia region, underwent artillery and mortar shelling.
In the area of responsibility of the Odesa Operational Command Odesa in the Kherson direction, the enemy conducted artillery shelling on Tyahynka, Kherson, Komyshany, Bilozirka, and Ochakiv in the Mykolaiv region.
Ukrainian counteoffenisve
The enemy is not giving up the intention to eliminate our units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro. Over the past day, the Russians attempted 23 unsuccessful assault actions, met with a worthy response, and suffered significant losses.
Our units continue to hold the defense steadfastly, maintaining the occupied positions and inflicting fire damage on the enemy.
Enemy losses
Over the course of the day, the Defense Forces' aviation conducted strikes on 12 areas of concentration of personnel, weaponry, military equipment, ammunition depots, and air defense missile systems of the enemy.
Missile troops' units targeted two artillery pieces and an enemy command post, inflicting damage.
