Russia-Ukraine war: Frontline update as of December 8

In Ukraine, there were 77 armed clashes on the front line within the last day. Defense forces continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region, repelling attacks by occupiers along the entire confrontation line. The situation remains challenging, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian shelling
Russian forces carried out 27 missile and 27 aerial strikes, launching 49 shelling attacks from multiple launch rocket systems on the positions of Ukrainian defenders and populated areas.
During the current day, Russian occupiers targeted Ukraine, using 20 air-launched cruise missiles Kh-101/Kh-555, a ballistic missile "Iskander-M," and 6 guided anti-aircraft missiles S-300. Ukrainian air defense forces successfully intercepted and destroyed 14 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles.
As a result of these terrorist attacks by the aggressors, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have suffered destruction and damage.
The situation at the frontlines
In the Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation remains unchanged, with no significant changes observed. There are no signs of the formation of offensive groupings. Identified units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in border areas with Ukraine.
In the Siversk and Slobozhanske directions, the enemy maintains military presence in border areas, conducts sabotage and reconnaissance activities, fires on populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine-explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine. Approximately 15 populated areas, including Loknya, Iskriskivschyna, Hrabovske, and Seredyna Buda in the Sumy region, Gur'yiv Kozachok, Veterynarne, Hraniv in the Kharkiv region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling by the enemy.
In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 9 enemy attacks in the areas of Synkivka and Ivanivka in the Kharkiv region. The adversary carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Petropavlivka and Podoliv in the Kharkiv region. Approximately 10 populated areas, including Synkivka, Ivanivka, Petropavlivka, and Berestove in the Kharkiv region, came under artillery and mortar fire.
In the Lyman direction, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack attempting to displace our units from occupied positions near Svirne in the Donetsk region. In addition, the adversary carried out aviation strikes in the areas of Serebrianske Forestry in the Luhansk region and Serebrianka in the Donetsk region.
Approximately 10 populated areas, including Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Yampolivka, Torske, Serebrianka, and Verkhniokamyanske in the Donetsk region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Bakhmut direction, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 10 enemy attacks in the areas of Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchivka, and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. The enemy carried out an aviation strike in the area of Chasove Yar in the Donetsk region.
In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 32 enemy attacks in the areas east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, Tonenke, and Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region. The enemy, with aviation support, unsuccessfully attempted to break through the defense of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The enemy also carried out an aviation strike in the area of Lastochkine in the Donetsk region. Enemy artillery and mortar shelling affected over 10 populated areas, including Berdychiv, Avdiivka, Stepove, Tonenke, and Nevelske in the Donetsk region.
In the Maryinka direction, the Defense Forces continue to restrain the enemy in the areas of Krasnohorivka, Mariinka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in the Donetsk region, where the adversary launched 20 unsuccessful attacks on the positions of our defenders. Populated areas in the Donetsk region, including Hostre, Mariinka, Heorhiivka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka, came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In the Shakhtarsk direction, the enemy did not engage in offensive (assault) actions. Approximately 10 populated areas, including Vodyane, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, and Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, were subjected to artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Defense Forces repelled an enemy attack in the area west of Verbovye in the Zaporizhzhia region. Over 20 populated areas, including Charivne, Huliaipole, Huliaipilske, Mala Tokmachka, Pyatykhatky, and Kamianske in the Zaporizhzhia region, were affected by enemy artillery and mortar shelling.
In the Kherson direction, the city of Kherson and Ivanivka in the Kherson region were subjected to enemy artillery shelling.
Ukrainian Armed Forces offensive
The defense forces continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. Defenders persist in delivering effective fire on the enemy.
Enemy losses
During the day, units of the missile forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine inflicted strikes on three areas of concentration of personnel, weapons, and military equipment, as well as one radio-electronic warfare (REB) station of Russian occupiers.
Earlier, it was reported that according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of the morning of December 8, Russia's losses in the war against Ukraine exceeded 337,000 soldiers. In the last 24 hours alone, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have eliminated 990 occupiers.
