Russia-Ukraine war: frontline update as of August 4

The Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) are currently engaged in offensive operations on the Melitopol and Berdyansk fronts. Troops have consolidated their positions along the achieved front lines and are also actively countering enemy artillery fire, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Russian attacks
"Over the past 24 hours, the enemy carried out 39 aerial strikes (employing 2 Shahed-136/131 drones, all of which were neutralized) and conducted 43 shelling incidents using rocket artillery on our forces' positions and civilian areas," the statement reads.
Throughout this period, there were 30 clashes between the opposing forces.
Frontline situation
On the Volyn and Polissia fronts, the operational situation remains relatively stable.
On the Siversk and Slobozhanske fronts, the enemy launched aerial attacks in the area of Volfyne and Kostiantynivka, Sumy region. They also carried out mortar and artillery shelling on more than 25 settlements.
On the Kupiansk front, artillery and mortar strikes targeted over 10 populated areas, including Zapadne, Kyndrashivka, Petropavlivka, Kucheryivka, and Kupiansk in Kharkiv Oblast.
On the Lyman front, the enemy shelled the area of Nevske, Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region, and Torske, Verkhniokamianske, and Spirne in the Donetsk region.
On the Bakhmut front, Ukrainian defenders are holding their ground in Klishchiivka and Kurdiumivka against enemy attacks. More than 10 settlements suffered from hostile artillery shelling, including Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Hryhorivka, Markove, and Ivanivske in the Donetsk region.
On the Avdiivka front, under heavy enemy aviation and artillery fire, Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled Russian forces' assaults in the area of Avdiivka. Artillery strikes impacted over 15 settlements.
On the Maryinka front, defense forces continue to stop the Russian advancement in the Maryinka and Krasnohorivka areas. The enemy carried out aerial attacks in the area of Krasnohorivka and shelled on more than 10 settlements.
On the Shakhtarsk front, the enemy's attempts to regain lost ground in the area of Blahodatne were unsuccessful. They launched aerial attacks in the Staromykhailivka area and targeted Blahodatne, Vuhledar, and Prechystivka in the Donetsk region, as well as Staromykhailivka and Levadne in the Zaporizhzhia region.
On the Zaporizhzhia front, the enemy's attempts to advance near Novopokrovka were unsuccessful. They carried out aerial strikes in the Mala Tokmachka, Orikhove, and Novodanylivka settlements of the Zaporizhzhia region. The enemy is focusing its main efforts on preventing further advancement of Ukrainian forces. Artillery shelling affected more than 15 settlements.
On the Kherson front, the enemy launched an aerial strike in Odradokamianka. Enemy artillery strikes impacted over 20 settlements.
Enemy losses
"During the day, defense aviation carried out 7 strikes on enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment concentrations," the General Staff noted.
Rocket and artillery units targeted 9 enemy artillery units and two areas where enemy personnel, weaponry, and military equipment were concentrated.
