Russia threatens world with nuclear weapons from UN General Assembly podium
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, warned against attempts to defeat a nuclear power, according to AP.
The Russian minister reiterated the Kremlin's propaganda narrative that the West allegedly uses Ukraine as a tool in its effort to defeat Moscow strategically and prepare Europe for it to also throw itself into this suicidal escapade.
"I’m not going to talk here about the senselessness and the danger of the very idea of trying to fight to victory with a nuclear power, which is what Russia is," Lavrov stated.
At a press conference following his address, Lavrov remarked that regardless of whether Ukraine is granted permission for long-range weapon supplies, we will see how they understood what was said.
New nuclear threats from Putin
Notably, Russian leader Vladimir Putin recently proposed expanding the list of conditions under which nuclear weapons could be used. In the updated version of Russia's nuclear doctrine, aggression against Russia by any non-nuclear state, but with involvement or support from a nuclear state, is suggested to be regarded as a joint attack on Russia.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called Putin's nuclear threats "irresponsible."
