Russia announced its intention to intensify strikes against Ukraine following remarks by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding possible attacks on Russian oil refineries, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
The Russian agency states that, following Zelenskyy's remarks, the Russian Armed Forces would allegedly intensify strikes on military and military-industrial facilities, as well as related infrastructure in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine.
At the same time, the Russian side blames the Ukrainian leadership for any potential escalation of the attacks.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claims that Russian strikes on Ukraine are allegedly a response to attacks by the Ukrainian side.
In particular, the Russian Ministry accuses Ukraine of striking civilian targets on Russian territory and claims there were attempts to disrupt the State Duma elections.
The statement also mentions alleged strikes on polling stations, which, according to the Russian side, resulted in the deaths of six people. No independent confirmation of these claims is provided in the statement.
In addition, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported an alleged massive attack by over 1,600 Ukrainian strike drones on civilian targets in Moscow on September 19–20.
The Ministry also mentions alleged attempted attacks during the international economic forum in St. Petersburg in June 2026.
"Following today's statement by Zelenskyy, Russian strikes on military and military-industrial facilities, as well as related infrastructure in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine, will be intensified," the Russian Defense Ministry's statement reads.
Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, listed three conditions that, in his words, are necessary for lasting peace with Ukraine.
Among them are Ukraine's neutral and non-nuclear status, a renunciation of the policy that Moscow calls nationalist, and the recognition of the occupied territories as part of Russia.
Medvedev also stated that if Ukraine did not agree to these demands, Russia would allegedly try to achieve them by military means.
