Russia struck data centers to disrupt air raid alerts - Foreign Ministry

Russia struck data centers during its massive attack on Ukraine on September 23, attempting to disrupt the operation of air threat alert systems, according to Andrii Sybiha, Ukrainian Foreign Minister, on Twitter (X).
"Russia has targeted major Ukrainian data centers, seeking to disrupt the flow of information," the head of Ukraine’s foreign policy agency said.
Sybiha emphasized that rapid warnings about missile and drone attacks are crucial for people’s safety. It is thanks to such alerts that civilians can learn about a threat in time and move to shelters.
According to him, data centers are part of critically important civilian infrastructure. They provide people with access to information and ensure the operation of services needed in everyday life.
"This is critical civilian infrastructure that ensures people can access life-saving information. It is not a military target," the Foreign Minister said.
According to the Foreign Minister, Russia is thus trying to destabilize the lives of Ukrainians and put pressure on the civilian population.
"More sanctions pressure, more missile interceptors are the only way to stop this terror. These attacks must not become the new normal," he concluded.
During Russia’s attack on Kyiv on September 23, one of the capital’s data centers was damaged. This caused disruptions to communications and access to some services on the networks of UTELS and Pavutyna providers.
Some companies also felt the effects of the damage to the telecommunications infrastructure. In particular, due to the Russian attack, some services of the online store of Bookstore Ye were temporarily unavailable.
