Russia strikes Ukraine with Shaheds, spotters direct attacks - Threat zones identified

Combat drones launched by Russian forces during another air attack on Ukraine have been detected in the northern, southern, and parts of central regions. Air defense units are actively targeting the drones, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
Late on May 11, the military reported detecting not only Russian kamikaze drones but also reconnaissance UAVs likely used to guide Russian strikes.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, these reconnaissance drones were spotted over Sumy and Zaporizhzhia regions, with air defense systems engaged to shoot them down.
Local Zaporizhzhia governor Ivan Fedorov also confirmed air defense activity in the region via his official channel.
As of 11:44 PM Kyiv time, Ukraine’s Air Force reported Russian drones detected over several regions:
-
Chernihiv region (north, east, south) heading south/southwest
-
Sumy region (west) heading southwest
-
Poltava region (north) heading southwest
-
Zaporizhzhia region (east) heading northwest/west
Air raid alerts were issued in Kyiv and Dnipropetrovsk due to the threat of kamikaze drone attacks.
Later updates indicated new groups of attack drones entering the Sumy region from Russia’s Kursk region.
Around 12:30 AM Kyiv time, the military informed that Russia reconnaissance UAVs, which "could be spotters for enemy weapon systems," were also spotted in the northern parts of Chernihiv and Kharkiv regions. The Defense Forces added that measures were taken to destroy them.
