Russia strikes Ukraine with ballistic missiles and drones: Air defense's work reported
On the night of August 16, Russia launched a combined attack on Ukraine. The Russian invaders fired Iskander ballistic missiles and drones, according to the commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleshchuk.
Last night, Russian troops fired three Iskander-M ballistic missiles at Ukraine, as well as three Shahed-type attack drones and two unidentified drones from the territory of the Kursk region.
Ukrainian defenders destroyed all the drones launched by the Russians. Air defenses were operating in five regions - Poltava, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Odesa, and Mykolaiv.
Russia's night attack on Ukraine
In some regions of Ukraine, the air alert was declared several times on the night of August 16.
As early as the evening of 15 August, the Ukrainian Air Force reported the movement of the Russian Shaheds. Their movement was recorded in Poltava, Dnipro, Kirovohrad, Sumy, and Kyiv regions. There was also a threat of ballistic missile attacks.
An air raid alert was declared in Kyiv after midnight, lasting about 44 minutes. Explosions were heard in the capital, and local authorities reported the operation of air defenses.
According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, there were no Russian strikes in the capital. There were no casualties or damage in Kyiv as a result of the Russian attack.
