Russia attacked railway infrastructure in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions overnight, damaged railcars and depots, according to Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine and Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine.

"The Ukrainian Railways depot in the city of Sumy has been damaged. This depot provides daily connections to Sumy and the entire region. Here, railcars are prepared for travel and undergo technical inspections—it is a completely civilian enterprise that works for passengers," Kuleba says.

According to him, a massive Russian drone raid destroyed most of the work premises and damaged the Sumy-Kyiv train depot. Employees were evacuated to shelters in advance, and no one was injured in this large-scale Russian attack.

In addition, railway infrastructure in Lozova, Kharkiv region, was damaged. Trains are running on a modified route there, and there are delays.

"Russia struck critical and civilian infrastructure and residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions throughout the night. These are targeted strikes against the lives of Ukrainians and the country's transport arteries. We are continuing restoration work," he adds.

Russian strikes on Ukrainian Railways

Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukrainian Railways facilities have been under constant Russian attack.

On October 30, due to Russian strikes and power outages in the Mykolaiv region, passenger trains in the region were running with delays. In particular, trains to Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Lviv.

Also, on October 24, due to massive Russian strikes on several regions of Ukraine, passenger train traffic was disrupted. In particular, this affected the Kirovohrad, Kharkiv, and Sumy regions.
