Russia strikes Liberia-flagged civilian vessel in Black Sea for third time

Russia struck a civilian vessel flying the Liberian flag in the Black Sea. The ship had already been targeted by Russian forces twice before, according to Odesa Regional Military Administration Head Oleh Kiper.
"As a result of another cynical enemy attack in the Black Sea waters, a Liberian-flagged civilian vessel anchored without crew or cargo was struck," he said.
Kiper noted that the vessel had already been damaged twice in previous attacks by Russian forces. After the strike, smoke was reported coming from the ship, and the consequences of the attack are currently being assessed.
"These strikes once again demonstrate Russia's deliberate disregard for international law and its targeted attempts to disrupt the operation of Ukraine's maritime corridor," the Regional Military Administration Head said.
Earlier, on July 27, the UN Security Council held an emergency meeting over Russian attacks on civilian vessels in the Black Sea. The latest wave of Russian strikes poses serious threats to global food security.
Acting Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that Russia is trying to turn the Black Sea into a source of instability by deliberately targeting civilian commercial ships.
RBC-Ukraine also reported that attacks on port infrastructure and foreign commercial vessels have effectively halted Ukraine's maritime exports.
