Today, January 31, the Russian army attacked Odesa in the evening. As a result of the attack, casualties have already been reported.

RBC-Ukraine has collected information about the consequences of the attack.

Target and type of attack

A series of powerful explosions were reported in Odesa after Ukraine’s Air Force had warned of a ballistic missile threat from the south.

Later, the Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration Oleh Kiper said that the attack targeted the historic center of the city.

Odesa Mayor Hennadii Trukhanov stated that the UNESCO-protected zone sustained significant damage, including to a building under special protection.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that, according to preliminary information, Russian forces used ballistic missiles to strike civilian areas.

"Again and again: air defense is the top priority. We are working with all partners to strengthen protection for our country," he emphasized.

Casualties

As of 9:02 p.m., Mayor Trukhanov reported that two people had been injured and were taken to hospitals for treatment.

According to Kiper, one of the injured was a hotel employee. Later, at 9:37 p.m., the Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration updated that both casualties were women and were hospitalized in moderate condition.

"All relevant services are working at the scene. I urge residents not to ignore safety measures and to immediately head to shelters in case an air raid alert is announced," he added.

Notably, a few days ago, Russian forces struck a private enterprise in Mykolaiv.
