Russia's losses in Ukraine as of September 17: +1,960 troops and 1,439 drones

Ukraine has reported another day of heavy Russian losses on the battlefield, including hundreds of casualties and substantial numbers of tanks, armored vehicles, and other equipment.
The total Russian combat losses from February 24, 2022, to September 17, 2026, are estimated to be:
- Personnel ‒ nearly 1,513,490 (+1,960)
- Tanks ‒ 12,346 (+1)
- Armored fighting vehicles ‒ 25,345 (+6)
- Special equipment ‒ 4,697 (+5)
- Vehicles and fuel tanks ‒ 150,018 (+461)
- Unmanned ground vehicles ‒ 2,644 (+14)
- Artillery systems ‒ 49,863 (+43)
- MLRS ‒ 2,139 (+7)
- Air defense assets ‒ 1,645 (+3)
- Aircraft ‒ 442
- Helicopters ‒ 356
- UAVs (operational-tactical level) ‒ 520,508 (+1,439)
- Cruise missiles ‒ 5,111
- Warships and boats ‒ 35

Frontline situation
Ukrainian strikes disrupted operations at two Russian oil refineries in Syzran and Saratov, further straining the country’s domestic fuel supply. On the battlefield, Ukrainian forces counterattacked near Kupiansk and retook positions as Russian troops failed to make significant advances and struggled to consolidate their positions along the Oskil River.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces also eliminated Russian Major General Anton Grunis in the occupied part of the Donetsk region after locating him on September 12, according to Unmanned Systems Forces commander Robert “Madyar” Brovdi.
