Over the past day, from October 16 to October 17, the Russians lost another 730 troops on the front lines. The Armed Forces of Ukraine also destroyed 5 tanks and 35 artillery systems, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to October 17, 2025, are estimated to be:

  • Personnel - about 1,128,030 (+730) Russian troops;
  • Tanks - 11,266 (+5);
  • Troop-carrying AFVs - 23,394 (+10);
  • Artillery systems - 33,748 (+35);
  • MLRS - 1,520;
  • Anti-aircraft systems - 1,228 (+1);
  • Aircraft - 427;
  • Helicopters - 346;
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 71,025 (+588);
  • Cruise missiles - 3,864 (+5);
  • Warships/boats - 28 (+0);
  • Submarines - 1 (+0);
  • Vehicles and fuel tanks - 64,541 (+73);
  • Special equipment - 3,978 (+1).

Situation on the front

According to the assessment of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), on October 11, Russia continued to advance across the entire front line.

In particular, Russia advanced in the Sumy direction, in the Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions, as well as in the direction of Velykyi Burluk, and in the Kupiansk, Borovsk, Lyman, and Siverskyi directions.

However, experts noted that Russia is hardly advancing anywhere.
