Russia's losses in Ukraine as of May 20: +1,030 troops and 58 artillery systems

Over the last day, from May 19 to 20, the Russian army lost 1,030 troops. Thus, the total losses of the Russian army in manpower have already exceeded 975,000 troops, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to May 20, 2025, are estimated to be:
- personnel - about 975,800 (+1,030) Russian troops were eliminated;
- tanks - 10,834 (+1);
- troop-carrying AFVs - 22,567 (+5)
- artillery systems - 28,067 (+58)
- MLRS - 1,388 (+1);
- anti-aircraft systems - 1,167
- aircraft - 372
- helicopters - 335
- UAV operational-tactical level - 36,621 (+118)
- cruise missiles - 3,197
- warships/boats - 28
- submarines - 1
- vehicles and fuel tanks - 49,093 (+105)
- special equipment - 3,894 (+2).
Frontline update
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported in its evening update on May 19 that 156 combat engagements had occurred on the front since the beginning of the day.
Military command noted that Russians continue to focus their main efforts on assaults and attacks in the Pokrovsk direction.
In a report published on May 20, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) indicated, in particular, that Ukrainian defense forces had advanced in the Kursk region as well as near Borova and Toretsk. Meanwhile, Russian forces are exerting pressure near Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, and Novopavlivka, as well as along the Kursk axis.
