Ukraine’s Defense Forces eliminated 910 more Russian occupiers over the past day and destroyed 6 tanks, 7 armored combat vehicles, and 34 enemy artillery systems, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to May 17, 2025, are estimated to be:

  • military personnel - about 972,600 (+910) Russian troops were eliminated;
  • tanks - 10,831 (+6);
  • troop-carrying AFVs - 22,553 (+7);
  • artillery systems - 27,942 (+34);
  • MLRS - 1,386 (+1);
  • anti-aircraft systems - 1,167 (+1);
  • aircraft - 372;
  • helicopters - 335;
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 36,278 (+155);
  • cruise missiles - 3,197;
  • warships/boats - 28;
  • submarines - 1;
  • vehicles and fuel tanks - 48,809 (+96);
  • special equipment - 3,892.

Situation at the front

As previously reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the evening summary on May 15, a total of 117 combat engagements took place along the front line since the beginning of the day.

According to the military command, out of twelve directions, enemy assaults were not recorded only in the Hulyaipole and Prydniprovskyi directions.

In a report published on May 17, experts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) stated, in particular, that Ukraine’s Defense Forces advanced in the Pokrovsk sector. Meanwhile, Russian forces made gains near Toretsk, Novopavlivka, Pokrovsk, and in the Zaporizhzhia direction.
