Over the last 24 hours, from January 4 to 5, Russian forces lost 1,730 soldiers, 91 UAVs operational-tactical level, and 26 armored personnel vehicles on the frontlines, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to January 5, 2025, are estimated to be:

  • personnel - about 796 490 (+1730) Russian troops were eliminated;
  • tanks - 9686 (+7);
  • armored personnel vehicle - 20 119 (+26);
  • artillery systems - 21 603 (+25);
  • MLRS - 1,257;
  • anti-aircraft warfare systems - 1,032;
  • airplanes - 369;
  • helicopters - 331;
  • UAV operational-tactical level - 21 447 (+91);
  • cruise missiles - 3,006;
  • warships/boats - 28;
  • submarines - 1;
  • vehicles and fuel tanks - 32 940 (+97);
  • special equipment - 3677 (+2).

Situation on the frontline and Russian shelling

According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Ukrainian Defense Forces have advanced in the Luhansk region and are successfully holding off the enemy near Kurakhove.

Throughout the night, Russian forces once again launched Shahed kamikaze drones at Ukraine.

Explosions were heard in Poltava due to air defense systems engaging hostile targets.
