Russia's losses in Ukraine as of December 31: +1,600 troops, 34 artillery systems

Over the past 24 hours, from December 30 to December 31, Russian forces have lost 1,610 soldiers, five tanks, and 27 troop-carrying AFVs in the war in Ukraine, reports the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to December 31, 2024, are estimated to be:
- personnel - about 789,550 (+1,610) Russian troops were eliminated;
- tanks - 9,668 (+5);
- troop-carrying AFVs - 20,030 (+27);
- artillery systems - 21,528 (+34);
- MLRS - 1,256;
- anti-aircraft warfare systems - 1,032;
- airplanes - 369;
- helicopters - 329;
- UAV operational-tactical level - 21,081 (+12);
- cruise missiles - 3,003;
- warships/boats - 28;
- submarines - 1;
- vehicles and fuel tanks - 32,626 (+75);
- special equipment - 3,671 (+1).
Frontline situation and Russian shelling
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Ukrainian Defense Forces have advanced near Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, and Pokrovsk. However, Russian forces made gains near Kurakhove, Vuhledar, and Velyka Novosilka.
Overnight, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with Shahed kamikaze drones. In the Kyiv region, air defense forces intercepted the enemy drones.
The Russian military also launched ballistic missiles at Ukraine.
