In the past 24 hours, on August 2, Russia has lost 1,170 military personnel in the war in Ukraine. Additionally, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have destroyed 56 artillery systems, 52 drones, and 27 armored combat vehicles, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The total combat Russian losses from February 24, 2022, to August 3, 2024, are estimated to be:

  • personnel - about 581,760 (+1,170) Russian troops were eliminated;
  • tanks - 8,406 (+4);
  • armored personnel vehicles - 16,238 (+27);
  • artillery systems - 16,217 (+56);
  • MLRS - 1,135 (+1);
  • anti-aircraft warfare systems - 907;
  • aircraft - 363;
  • helicopters - 326;
  • UAVs of operational-tactical level - 13,057 (+52);
  • cruise missiles - 2,410 (+3);
  • ships/boats - 28;
  • submarines - 1;
  • motor vehicles and fuel tanks - 21,926 (+54);
  • special equipment - 2,723 (+4).

Situation on the front lines

As of the evening of August 2, the General Staff reported 102 combat engagements on the front. The situation remains "hot" in the Pokrovsk direction, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 27 enemy attacks, with three more battles still ongoing.

According to the Institute for the Study of War, the occupiers have reached a key road near Vuhledar. Additionally, Russian forces have advanced in the areas of New York and Zalizne, raising the possibility of a tactical encirclement of Ukrainian troops.
