Russia's massive overnight strike on Ukraine is not a path to peace. Kyiv is waiting for a reaction from the United States, says Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi.

According to Tykhyi, Ukraine's position on the Russian night strikes is unequivocal and demonstrates how important President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's proposals to establish silence in the sky and at sea were.

According to him, the American media is probably already filled with news about today's Russian strikes. Kyiv, in turn, is waiting for Washington's reaction.

“And of course, the path to peace is not such strikes as Russia has inflicted on Ukraine last night. This should be obvious. But I cannot predict the reactions or statements of our partners. They will wake up and we will analyze what they will say,” he added.

Russian strikes on Ukraine on the night of March 7

On the night of March 7, Russia launched a combined attack on Ukraine with various types of missiles and drones. In total, Russia launched 261 air strikes. Ukrainian air defense shot down 134 of them:

  • 25 Kh-101/Kh-55cm cruise missiles;
  • 8 Kalibr cruise missiles;
  • 1 Kh-59/69 guided missile;
  • 100 Shahed attack drones and other types of drones.

According to Zelenskyy, the first step to peace should be forcing Russia to stop attacking Ukraine's energy sector.
