Russia's Defense Ministry makes cynical statement after Ukraine massive attack

The Russian Defense Ministry has issued a cynical statement regarding the massive overnight attack on Ukraine on June 17, claiming it targeted allegedly military-industrial complex facilities in the Kyiv and Zaporizhzhia regions, and declaring that the objectives of the strikes were achieved.
"Last night, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation carried out a group strike using high-precision weapons launched from air, land, and sea platforms, as well as strike UAVs, against military-industrial complex facilities in Ukraine's Kyiv region and in Zaporizhzhia," the statement says.
In a cynical tone, the Ministry claimed a so-called "successful attack," which in reality killed numerous civilians in their homes across Ukraine.
"The objective of the strikes was achieved. All designated targets were hit," the Russian Defense Ministry added.
Attack on Ukraine on June 17
During the night of June 17, Russia launched one of its most large-scale attacks on Ukraine, focusing its strikes on Kyiv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia.
Starting at midnight, waves of Shahed kamikaze drones were launched, followed by aeroballistic Kinzhal missiles and Iskander ballistic missiles.
Later, Russia added cruise missiles launched from strategic bombers to the assault.
In the second half of the night, Zaporizhzhia was struck by missiles, and around dawn, drones attacked Odesa.
In Kyiv, the attack has already claimed the lives of at least 14 people, with over 100 injured. Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned that the number of casualties may rise, as people could still be trapped under rubble. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, at least five individuals remain beneath the debris.
In particular, in the Darnytskyi district of the capital, three civilians were killed. In total, 114 people sought medical help, and 68 were hospitalized.
Furthermore, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has responded to the massive Russian attack.
