Russia has not broken through the Ukrainian border in the Sumy region. The enemy uses small assault groups, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine repel the Russian attacks, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing the spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Andrii Demchenko.

"In the direction of the Sumy region at the moment, despite the statements recently made by Russia that they have broken through the Ukrainian border, this is not the case. In fact, the enemy continues to use small assault groups, and it should be understood that opposite the section of the territory within the Kursk region, where the Defense Forces conducted their operation, the enemy has amassed quite significant forces - both in terms of personnel and equipment," Demchenko said.

A spokesperson informed that with these forces, the enemy is trying to push the Armed Forces of Ukraine out of the Kursk region. In addition, Russia deploys these same troops as small assault groups toward the settlements of Novenke and Zhuravka in the Sumy region.

Demchenko does not rule out that the enemy may attempt to apply the same tactics in other directions to expand the combat zone along the border or within Ukrainian territory.

"In fact, these small assault groups have one task - to cross the state border line, penetrate as deeply as possible into Ukrainian territory, gain a foothold, wait for reinforcements in the form of similar small groups, and then conduct active combat operations on Ukrainian soil. But our soldiers, using artillery, mortar units, and drones, do not allow the enemy to achieve the goals it has set for itself," the Ukrainian military stated.

Demchenko also added that at the moment, the enemy's small assault groups are suffering losses both at the approaches to the Ukrainian border and when Russian troops have already crossed the state boundary.

What preceded these comments

Today, the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that the Russian army had allegedly captured the settlement of Veselivka in the Sumy region - or as they refer to it in Russia, "liberated."

On Thursday, March 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that intelligence had recorded Russia's preparations for a new offensive. Zelenskyy clarified that the threat is directed at the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions.

"According to our intelligence, Russia is getting ready for new offensives against the Sumy, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions. They’re dragging out the talks and trying to get the US stuck in endless, pointless discussions about fake 'conditions' just to buy time and then try to grab more land," the Ukrainian President explained.
