Russia is planning to transfer some military equipment from Syria to Libya using the Sparta and Sparta II cargo ships, according to Defense Intelligence of Ukraine.

The Russians are waiting for their warships in the Syrian city of Tartus to export military equipment and weapons. There are also mercenaries of the African Corps controlled by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

On January 5, Russian large landing ships Ivan Gren and Alexander Otrakovsky, as well as the dry cargo ship Sparta, are scheduled to arrive at the Syrian port. Currently, all ships are on their way to Tartus in the Mediterranean Sea.

“On January 8, 2025, two more Russian vessels are scheduled to enter Tartus - the universal cargo ship Sparta II and the tanker Ivan Skobelev, which are currently intending to cross the Strait of Gibraltar. The Russians plan to use the Sparta and Sparta II cargo ships to transport military equipment and weapons from Syria to Libya,” the intelligence adds.

Another Russian ship from the Russian Navy's operational group in the Mediterranean, the frigate Admiral Golovko, is refueling.

Meanwhile, Russia has already unloaded evacuated armored personnel carriers at an airfield in the Vladimir region.
