Russian forces are seeking to launch a massive strike on Ukraine during the last cold days of this winter. The enemy cannot resist such a temptation, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s evening address.
According to Zelenskyy, intelligence reports indicate that Russia is preparing for further massive strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Therefore, it is essential that air defenses are fully prepared.
"Russian attacks are constantly, if one can put it this way, 'evolving.' Evil evolves too, unfortunately. These are combined strikes that require special protection and appropriate support from our partners," the president said.
The Ukrainian head of state warned that any delays in supplying missiles for air defense contribute to amplifying the consequences of Russian attacks. Therefore, all agreements with partners must be implemented promptly.
He also noted that the Ukrainian delegation has already arrived in Geneva and is preparing for negotiations with Russia.
"Russia cannot resist the temptation in the last days of winter and wants to strike the Ukrainian people painfully. The greater this evil from Russia, the harder it will be for everyone to reach any agreements with them. Partners need to understand this — above all, the United States," the president said.
He reminded that over the past year, Ukraine has agreed to all realistic US proposals for de-escalation, starting with the offer of a full and unconditional ceasefire.
"Russia rejects them, continues assaults on the front lines, and strikes our cities and energy infrastructure. We expect our partners to act so that forcing the aggressor toward peace actually works," Zelenskyy emphasized.
Negotiations in Geneva
Earlier, Ukraine, Russia, and the US held two rounds of talks in Abu Dhabi over the past month. Each time the delegations met to discuss a possible peace, Russia carried out massive strikes on Ukraine.
Russia targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during severe cold spells. In particular, the enemy nearly completely destroyed the Darnytska thermal power plant in Kyiv, leaving many apartment buildings without heating.
