On Monday, US and Ukrainian delegations met in Saudi Arabia, where Ukraine expressed its readiness for a full 30-day ceasefire. Now, it is Russia's turn to demonstrate its willingness for peace, according to an EU statement.

"The European Union welcomes the joint statement by Ukraine and the United States following their meeting in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including the proposals for a ceasefire agreement, humanitarian efforts, and the resumption of US intelligence sharing and security assistance," the statement reads.

The EU reaffirmed its full commitment to supporting future steps alongside Ukraine, the U.S., and other partners. Its goal is to help Ukraine achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law.

"The proposal of a ceasefire - if accepted by Russia - can be an important step in this direction. It is now for Russia to show its willingness to achieve peace," the EU added.

The statement concluded by praising Saudi Arabia’s efforts in facilitating these discussions.

More details on the agreements reached between the US and Ukraine in Jeddah are stated in the report.
