Russia has managed to influence some people in the team of the White House Head, Donald Trump, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says in an interview with Time.

According to Zelenskyy, after the suspension of intelligence-sharing, Vladimir Putin told Trump that Ukrainian soldiers had allegedly been surrounded in the Kursk region by Russian invaders. This was a lie, yet the US President continued to amplify it.

The President of Ukraine added that American officials began to believe Putin at his word, even when their own intelligence contradicted the Russian dictator's statements.

"I believe Russia has managed to influence some people on the White House team through information. Their signal to the Americans was that the Ukrainians do not want to end the war, and something should be done to force them," Zelenskyy stated.

Witkoff's statements about 'referendum'

It is also worth mentioning the recent scandalous statements by Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Witkoff claimed that the "biggest problem" in the full-scale war in Ukraine is "Donbas, Crimea, Luhansk, and two other (regions - ed.)." According to him, these territories are supposedly "Russian-speaking" and "referendums" were held there during which "the overwhelming majority of the people have indicated that they want to be under Russian rule."

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation, Oleksandr Merezhko criticized Witkoff's words and stated that Trump should dismiss him from the position.
