Russia losing artillery advantage over Ukraine but compensating with bombs - Sky News
Western officials claim that Russia's ability to dominate the battlefield with artillery has significantly decreased, but it is compensating by using air bombs, according to Sky News.
The ratio of shells fired by Russian and Ukrainian troops is now 1.5 to 1 in favor of Russia.
For comparison, at the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, this figure was at least 5 to 1 or even higher.
Among the reasons for the reduction of Russia's significant artillery advantage are the following:
1. Production restrictions in Russia, as its defense industry faces difficulties in manufacturing new ammunition due to sanctions.
2. Logistical difficulties arising from problems with the transportation of ammunition by rail to the front line.
3. Ukrainian drone strikes that have successfully and purposefully attacked Russian ammunition depots, including those on Russian territory, as well as North Korean stockpile storage sites.
4. Western assistance to Ukraine has increased and accelerated, helping to strengthen the arsenal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
However, Russia has increased its use of guided aerial bombs, which have a devastating effect, according to Western officials.
They also added that although Russia continues to capture certain positions in Ukraine, these successes come at a cost to the Russian army.
November was a record month for Russia in terms of soldier losses.
According to a report by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russian army lost over 50 soldiers per square kilometer of captured territory this fall.
