Russian forces attacked Sumy twice with drones today, June 16. The strikes damaged civilian infrastructure, according to the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov.

"Last night, the Russian army carried out another attack on the regional center, and after 1 p.m. (Kyiv time - ed.), it again targeted the city center with drones," he wrote.

According to Hryhorov, the strikes shattered windows in residential buildings and civilian infrastructure. In particular, an administrative building was damaged. No casualties were reported as a result of the attacks.

He emphasized that Russia continues to violate international law by striking areas where civilians are present.

The head of the regional military administration urged residents of the Sumy region not to ignore air raid alerts.

Situation in the Sumy region

Russian troops continue their attempts to advance in the Sumy region. On June 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Russian forces had been successfully halted.

At the same time, on June 8, Hryhorov emphasized that there was no reason to evacuate residents of Sumy. The situation in the region remains under the control of Ukrainian defenders.
