On the night of January 2, Russian troops attacked southern Ukraine with Shahed kamikaze drones. Ukrainian Air Defense Forces downed enemy targets, but in Mykolaiv, a fire broke out in the garages, according to the Southern Defense Forces.

"The nighttime enemy drone attack in the south was worked out as efficiently as possible. In the evening, the Russians launched drones in two waves with a pause of more than three hours," the statement says.

The first wave lasted about an hour, the second - five hours in a row.

Air defense units shot down 6 Shahed-131/136 drones:

  • 3 - in the Mykolaiv region;
  • 2 - in the Dnipropetrovsk region;
  • 1 - in the Kherson region.

In Mykolaiv, the wreckage of a downed UAV caused a fire in a garage, which rescuers managed to quickly extinguish. There were no casualties.
