Last night, Russian occupiers launched an airstrike on Ukraine using various types of missiles, including ballistic ones, as well as kamikaze drones. Thanks to the efforts and capabilities of the air defense forces, most of the enemy's assets did not reach their targets or were shot down, according to the Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk, Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force.

Missile attack and air defense response

It was reported that on the night of August 25, the enemy launched a missile strike using various types of missiles against the front-line regions of Ukraine.

"Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk regions were attacked," the commander said.

  • He clarified that Russian forces used ground-based missiles for these attacks (launched from Voronezh and Rostov regions): the Iskander-K cruise missile and the Iskander-M ballistic missile,
  • as well as six guided air-launched Kh-59/Kh-69 missiles, which were launched from the airspace over Russia's Kursk and Belgorod regions.

"Due to the active countermeasures of Ukraine's Defense Forces, most of the missiles did not reach their targets," Oleshchuk informed.

Downing of Shaheds

In addition, the enemy also used nine Shahed-type kamikaze drones for the air attack, which were launched from Cape Chauda in temporarily occupied Crimea.

"Eight Shaheds were shot down by mobile fire groups in the Mykolaiv region," the lieutenant general said.

What is known about the consequences

According to Vitaliy Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration (RMA), in his Telegram post, air defense was active in the region last night, and eight Shahed 131/136 drones were shot down. However, falling fragments of enemy drones caused damage to civilian objects and sparked a fire. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

"As a result of the falling debris in the Mykolaiv district, about 15 residential houses and outbuildings were damaged," the official reported.

Additionally, the RMA head stated that a grass fire broke out but was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

It was earlier reported that a powerful explosion occurred in Kharkiv last night during an air raid alert due to an enemy airstrike using Kh-59/69 missiles.

A strike on Chuhuiv was also confirmed. Among the injured in this city was a 4-year-old child who had an acute stress reaction.

Later, the mayor of Kharkiv stated that there were two strikes in the city, a fire broke out on a gas pipeline, and six people were injured.
