Russia launches missile and drone attacks on Ukraine: How air defense responded
On the night of September 22, the Russian Federation launched missiles and 80 kamikaze drones at Ukraine. Air defense forces shot down 71 Russian drone, according to the Ukrainian Air Force's Telegram channel.
"On the night of September 22, the enemy struck with two guided air-to-surface missiles Kh-59/69 from the airspace of the temporarily occupied Luhansk region and launched 80 Shahed-type strike drones at Ukraine from Yeisk and Kursk," the report states.
Air defense operations
The air attack was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
"As a result of the air defense engagement, 71 strike drones were shot down, and six additional drones were lost due to electronic countermeasures," noted the Air Force.
Air defense systems operated in Khmelnytskyi, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Sumy, Poltava, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions.
Russian attacks on Ukraine
Russian forces continually attack Ukraine with drones and missiles. Yesterday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha stated that Russia is preparing strikes against Ukraine's nuclear energy facilities ahead of winter. Additionally, it is known that Russia aims to conduct round-the-clock attacks on Ukraine with Shahed drones.
Regarding the shelling on the night of September 22, the occupiers targeted energy infrastructure in Poltava region, while a residential building was damaged in Khmelnytskyi.
