Russia launches 49 drones overnight: Ukraine's air defense responds
At night on December 16, Russia launched 49 attack drones against Ukraine. Air defense forces managed to destroy 27 of them, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.
Starting at 1:00 a.m. Kyiv time, the Russians launched 49 attack drones, including Shahed drones and UAVs of other types, from the areas of Bryansk and Oryol in Russia.
Anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, as well as mobile fire teams from the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine were involved in repelling the enemy air attack.
As of 8:30 a.m. Kyiv time, 27 drones were confirmed shot down in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Cherkasy, Khmelnytskyi, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. In particular, 19 UAVs were lost due to location disruption.
Three drones remain in Ukraine's airspace.
"No hits were recorded, and no reports of destruction or casualties were received," the Air Force added.
Shellings of Ukraine
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has used a wide range of weaponry to target Ukraine's infrastructure, posing serious risks to civilians. In recent months, the enemy has deployed drones and missiles almost every night.
On the night of December 15, the Russian forces launched 108 drones against Ukraine. As a result, the air defense units worked in 10 regions of the country. By morning, 56 UAVs had been destroyed, while 49 drones failed to reach their targets.
