Russia launched 113 drones and an S-400 missile at Ukraine on the night of December 21. Air defense forces shot down half of the enemy drones, the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.

"On the night of December 21, the enemy launched an S-400 surface-to-air missile from temporarily occupied Donetsk region towards Poltava region, and attacked with 113 Shahed-type strike drones and UAVs of other types," the report states.

The targets were launched from the directions of Bryansk, Millerovo, Oryol, Kursk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and Berdyansk.

How air defense worked

The air attack was repelled by anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Force, and the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

"As of 09:00 a.m. Kyiv time, 57 Shahed-type strike drones and other types of UAVs have been confirmed as downed," the Air Forces reported.

In addition, 56 enemy imitation drones were lost locally due to active interference from the defense forces.

In the Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv regions, the downed strike drones damaged private and multi-story residential buildings, property, and vehicles.
