Russia launches 105 drones at Ukraine overnight: Air defense operation report
Russian forces launched an overnight attack on Ukraine with 105 kamikaze drones on the night of October 3, 78 of which were shot down by air defense systems, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.
"On the night of October 3, the enemy struck Ukraine's territory using attack UAVs. In total, 105 enemy drones of the Shahed type were detected and tracked by the Air Force's radar units," the statement said.
The drones were launched from Orel, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Kursk, and the Chayuda Cape in Crimea.
Air defense operation
The air assault was countered by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups from Ukraine's Air and Defense Forces.
"As a result of the air battle, 78 enemy Shahed attack drones were shot down over the Kyiv, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Chernihiv, Kherson, Odesa, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Rivne, and Ivano-Frankivsk regions," the military reported.
One drone headed toward Belarus, while 23 enemy UAVs were lost in various regions of Ukraine, likely due to active electronic warfare interference. Information is being clarified.
Russian shelling of Ukraine
After 11:00 PM, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv due to the presence of Russian UAVs. The drone threat also extended to other regions.
Explosions were heard in Kharkiv and Kyiv. Air defense systems were engaged on the outskirts of the capital.
Later, it was reported that drone debris had fallen near a high-rise building in Kyiv. However, none of the Russian drones reached their intended targets.
