Journalists have gained access to classified documents from Russia’s Agency for Social Design, which reveal a large-scale operation called Project 2026, according to Bloomberg.

According to the leak of files from the private Russian structure Agency for Social Design, which came into the possession of the media outlet, the organization planned to build an extensive network of reference websites modeled after Wikipedia, controlled media resources, and fake analytical centers.

This infrastructure was developed specifically to shape a distorted understanding of political issues among people and artificial intelligence systems.

The essence of Russia’s Project 2026

The main goal of the operation, according to the declassified internal materials of the Agency for Social Design, is to establish control over primary sources of information on the internet.

Modern algorithms of major search engines and AI chatbots use open encyclopedias and reference databases to learn and generate responses to user queries.

By creating a mass of pseudo-Wikipedia-like sources, the Russians aim to fill the digital environment with manipulated data. In this way, the Agency for Social Design seeks to force AI systems and search algorithms to provide users with distorted interpretations of global political processes.

Technical preparation and coordination of the operation

The leaked documents confirm that the activities of Russian influence operators are supported by the deployment of a corresponding network infrastructure. The structure of connections and coordination of the campaign is reflected in the graphical materials of the investigation.

In particular, technical analysis of the involved resources, conducted using DomainTools Iris Investigate security tools, shows systematic registration of targeted websites, domains, and platforms intended for launching fake analytical centers and news outlets.

All these elements were meant to function within a single coordinated network run by the mentioned private Russian agency to scale up disinformation influence.
