Russia kills or injures up to 20 people in Ukraine's Kherson every day

The number of Russian attacks on Kherson has increased 2.5-fold compared to the beginning of the year, and only about 20% of the pre-war population remains in the city, according to Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.
How many people left in Kherson
According to Prokudin, only a small fraction of the pre-war population currently resides in Kherson.
"That’s about 20% of the population before the full-scale invasion. The number was approximately 300,000; now it’s 60,000," says the head of the Regional Military Administration.
Why there are no longer any safe areas in Kherson
Prokudin notes that it is difficult to identify the most dangerous places in Kherson today, as the entire city has come under Russian attack.
"There probably aren't any most dangerous places today. The entire area where Kherson is located is dangerous, including even those districts that two months ago could have been called more or less safe. Now it's a red zone, where we have the most wounded and killed," he explains.
How number of Russian attacks increased
The head of the Regional Military Administration says that the intensity of the Russian strikes on the city has increased severalfold compared to the beginning of the year.
- At the beginning of the year, about 2,500 Russian attacks were recorded per week
- Now there are already 6,000 attacks—that is, 2.5 times more
- During the first half of the year, the city was struck by about 100 guided aerial bombs
- In the last month alone—another 200 guided aerial bombs.
"This also applies to rocket-propelled Shaheds, which we hadn't seen before. Every night, Russians strike our critical infrastructure. The situation is getting worse. This is directly linked to Russian attacks on Kherson," Prokudin says.
According to the head of the Regional Military Administration, staying in Kherson has remained dangerous for all residents for over a year and a half.
"Every day we see 20 people wounded or killed," Prokudin adds.
On August 28, the Kherson Regional Military Administration urged residents who were not ready to leave permanently to at least wait out the fall and winter in safer regions.
Deputy Head of the Regional Military Administration Oleksandr Tolokonnikov explained that decentralizing heat supply under constant Russian strikes was much more difficult, and the launch of just a few Gerbera drones could undo all the preparations.
Meanwhile, on September 3, the ATB chain denied rumors about the complete closure of its stores in Kherson.
The company explained that it was closing only those locations that have been damaged by the Russian strikes, while the rest of its supermarkets continue to serve residents wherever the security situation allows.
