Russia carried out another combined overnight attack on Ukraine, using strategic aviation, cruise missiles, and strike drones. Destruction, injuries, and large-scale emergency power outages were reported across multiple regions.

RBC-Ukraine reports what is currently known about the consequences of Russia’s nighttime attack.

Key points:

  • Russia deployed strategic bombers and cruise missiles heading toward western regions.

  • Energy infrastructure was targeted, triggering emergency power outages nationwide.

  • Residential buildings and infrastructure were damaged; civilians were injured.

  • Ukraine activated emergency electricity assistance from Poland.

Weapons used in the attack

According to monitoring channels, Russia launched Tu-95MS, Tu-160, and Tu-22M3 strategic bombers overnight, followed by cruise missile launches. The missiles entered Ukrainian airspace via the Kherson region and moved toward western oblasts.

Missile targets were recorded in Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv regions. Simultaneously, Russia carried out drone strike attacks, with explosions reported in particular in Burshtyn and Rivne.

Strike on the energy system and blackouts

Ukrenergo reported a massive attack on energy facilities, resulting in emergency power outages across most regions.

According to the government, substations and 750 kV and 330 kV overhead power lines—the backbone of Ukraine’s power grid—were hit, along with the Burshtyn and Dobrotvir thermal power plants.

Nuclear power plant units were temporarily unloaded, and Ukrenergo’s dispatcher activated a request for emergency electricity assistance from Poland.
