Russia hits Ukraine overnight with Shaheds, ballistic and Kinzhal missiles

Russia carried out another combined strike on Ukraine overnight on Thursday, August 28, using ballistic missiles and attack drones.

Shahed drone attacks
Russian forces launched dozens of attack drones on the evening of Wednesday, August 27. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the drones approached from multiple directions. Explosions were reported in Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, and Kyiv.

Some trains were rerouted, while others already on the damaged section continued under reserve locomotives.
Ballistic missile strikes
Around 3:00 AM Kyiv time, Russia fired ballistic missiles at the capital. Explosions were reported in several districts of Kyiv, with preliminary reports confirming direct impacts.
At least two people were injured and received medical assistance.

Kinzhal launches
Alongside drones and ballistic missiles, Russia also launched Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles. Preliminary reports indicated that four MiG-31K fighter jets were deployed, with high-speed targets detected heading toward Kyiv.
In the Makariv district of Kyiv region, residents heard an explosion around 3:55 AM. Local authorities later clarified it was most likely the shock wave caused by a Kinzhal overflight, with no direct hits recorded in the community.
