Russia had artillery advantage around Vuhledar of 10 to 1 at the end of summer - NYT
On Wednesday, October 2, Ukraine's Defense Forces officially confirmed their withdrawal from Vuhledar. Earlier, at the end of summer, Russian forces had a tenfold advantage in artillery around the city, reports The New York Times.
Specifically, Roman, a commander who defended Vuhledar with Ukraine’s 72nd Brigade, said that when the Russians concentrate their efforts on a particular section, they can overwhelm Ukrainian defenses. He noted that at the end of summer, Russian forces had a 10-to-1 advantage in artillery systems around Vuhledar.
"How can one of our artillery systems fight 10 of theirs?" Roman asked, giving his name under military protocol.
In the same article, The New York Times reported that Ukraine is currently employing a slow retreat tactic to minimize its losses while maximizing those of the enemy.
