Russia gathers troops, storms south, and changes tactics: Situation in Chasiv Yar

The Russian army is gathering forces in the northern part of Chasiv Yar and attempting to storm the southern part of the city. The Russians carried out 129 shellings, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing Lieutenant Colonel Dmytro Zaporozhets, Representative of the Luhansk Operational Tactical Grouping of Ukrainian Forces.
Zaporozhets stated that the Siverskyi Donets-Donbas canal, which was previously the site of intense fighting, has lost its strategic importance in the city. The Russian army had previously attempted assaults using the canal's concrete pipes. Currently, the enemy is concentrating forces in the Pivnichnyi area.
"At this point, we can say that movement through the canal pipes is no longer relevant. The enemy has created three breaches in the Siverskyi Donets canal to disperse our attention. We must allocate additional resources to control these breaches using drones and remote mining," the Ukrainian military said.
Zaporozhets explained that last month the Russians actively deployed armored vehicles in combat. These vehicles transported troops to the southern part of the city near the Avangard stadium.
"In January, no fewer than 10 armored vehicles were destroyed. As a result, their use has decreased. The number of quad bikes has increased, and they (Russians - ed.) are actively using buggies," the Ukrainian military noted.
Situation in Chasiv Yar
The fierce battles continue in Chasiv Yar, the Donetsk region. Russian forces have been using artillery and aviation in attempts to breach the Ukrainian Defense Forces' lines.
As previously reported, in July 2024, Ukrainian troops withdrew from the Kanal neighborhood in Chasiv Yar. The Defense Forces took up more advantageous positions.
Recently, the Russian army also attempted to storm Ukrainian positions in the Kramatorsk and Toretsk directions. As a result, the enemy equipment was destroyed, and Russian soldiers were eliminated.
