Russia fails to advance on multiple fronts as Ukraine repels attacks - ISW

Over the past several days, Russian forces have attempted to break through at various points along the front. However, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled the attacks in time, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported.
In the northern Sumy region, Russian forces conducted limited offensive operations but failed to make any advances.
Russian attacks in the northern Kharkiv region and northeast of Velykyi Burluk also remained unsuccessful.
Ukrainian military officials have denied Russian claims that Ukrainian units were allegedly encircled in the northeastern Kharkiv region. In particular, a spokesperson for the Ukrainian brigade operating in the area denied reports on September 11 that Russia had captured Dovzhanka, Vasylivka and Blahodatne. According to the spokesperson, the area remains a contested “gray zone.”
At the same time, Russian forces intensified their offensive activity in the northern Kharkiv region. According to analysts, this could create an exaggerated perception of the scale of Russian advances ahead of elections to Russia’s State Duma.
On the Kupiansk axis, Russian forces also conducted limited offensive operations, but failed to achieve any gains. Ukrainian forces, meanwhile, launched a counterattack near Zapadne, north of Kupiansk.
Ukrainian forces also continued carrying out medium-range strikes against Russian military targets in the occupied Luhansk region.
On other sections of the front, Russian forces likewise made no confirmed territorial gains. Their offensive operations around Dobropillia, on the Oleksandrivka axis, as well as on the Huliaipole axis and in western Zaporizhzhia region, also resulted in no advances.
The ISW notes that Russian sources are exaggerating the scale of Russian advances toward Sloviansk and Kramatorsk, attempting to prematurely claim that Russia has achieved its objectives around Ukraine’s so-called “fortress belt.”
Kostiantynivka remains a separate problem for Russian forces. Russia has still not established full control over the city, making it more difficult to create the necessary supply lines and, consequently, hindering further advances north of the city.
On the Zaporizhzhia axis, Russian forces are also trying to create conditions to encircle Orikhiv and cut Ukrainian logistical routes supplying the city.
