Russia is experimenting with the use of FPV drones with Shahed attack UAVs. Yurii Ihnat, head of the Communications Department of the Command of the Ukrainian Air Force, explained how widely the enemy is using this tactic.

According to him, Russian forces have already used FPV drones on Shaheds. Confirmation of this came from a video that previously appeared on social media.

But it is uncertain how widely the Russians will use such a scheme and how effective it will prove to be.

Russia is upgrading UAVs

Ihnat also said that Russia continues to improve the Shahed and Gerbera drones, including upgrades to communications, navigation, and electronic warfare systems.

“In fact, we need to keep up with the times in order to neutralize those new threats, including the enemy’s use of FPVs, which may be on the same Shaheds,” Ihnat said.

Earlier, information emerged online about Russian forces using Shaheds as carriers for FPV drones. The UAVs were delivered deep into Ukraine, including to the Kyiv region.

The version that Russian forces launch FPV drones from jet-powered Shaheds during attacks on Kyiv was checked by experts. Serhii 'Flash' Beskrestnov, the presidential adviser on the development of technological areas of defense, said that after several days of observation, no evidence confirming such a tactic was found.

On September 2, the Ukrainian LITAVR interceptor destroyed a Russian Shahed that was being used as a carrier for additional FPV drones. The target was hit by the crew of the 158th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
