Russia deploys new Chechen-formed regiment to southern Ukraine, say Ukrainian military

Russia has deployed a new regiment, formed in Chechnya, to the south of Ukraine, Spokesperson for Ukraine's Southern Defense Forces, Vladyslav Voloshyn, reports.
In particular, Voloshyn said that the new regiment was created by order of Russian leader Vladimir Putin, who recently announced a 30,000-person increase in mobilization.
As part of that order, each military district was instructed to form additional regiments.
"The Southern Military District, which operates in southern Ukraine, has also created an entirely new motorized rifle regiment. It was formed in the city of Khankala, in the Republic of Chechnya," Voloshyn said.
The Ukrainian military also explained that the Russians deployed this regiment to the south to cover their own losses and support their forces in two directions.
"The purpose of this regiment is simply to reinforce the units that have suffered heavy losses. And their losses are substantial; they've been significantly depleted. This regiment is also intended to assist in the Orikhiv and Huliaipole directions," the Spokesperson for Ukraine's Southern Defense Forces said.
