Russia deploys Kalibr missile carriers to Black Sea - Ukrainian navy

Russians have once again deployed missile carriers at sea, keeping the threat of missile strikes from the sea high, especially for the Odessa region, according to the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
As of 06:00 AM Kyiv time on June 2, 2025, two Russian ships armed with Kalibr cruise missiles are present in the Black Sea.
They can launch up to 12 missiles simultaneously, which significantly increases the threat of missile strikes on Ukrainian positions.
Situation in Mediterranean and Azov Seas
Currently, three Russian warships are in the Mediterranean Sea.
Among them is one ship equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles capable of launching up to 8 missiles simultaneously.
The presence of such weaponry on one of the ships greatly raises the potential threat in the region, as it allows Russia to carry out long-range missile strikes.
Meanwhile, no ships or vessels have been detected in the Sea of Azov, temporarily reducing the threat level in that direction.
Ship activity through Kerch Strait
Over the past day, 12 ships passed through the Kerch Strait heading toward the Black Sea on behalf of the Russians. Half of them continued toward the Bosphorus Strait.
In the opposite direction, six ships moved toward the Sea of Azov, most of which came from the Bosphorus side.
Violations of international norms
The Russians continue to violate the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) by turning off automatic identification systems (AIS) on their vessels.
This complicates the monitoring of their activities and increases the risk of maritime incidents.
Thus, the presence of the Russian missile carriers in the region and active shipping through strategic straits maintains a high level of threat of missile strikes and requires increased vigilance by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Russian attacks on Ukraine
On the night of June 2, air raid alarms were sounded twice due to missile threats, including the danger of using ballistic weapons from the northeast.
Explosions were heard in Kyiv and Kharkiv, with air defense systems responding.
On the night of May 25, Russia conducted one of the most powerful attacks on Ukraine, launching 298 drones and 69 missiles of various types.
Ukraine’s air defense forces managed to shoot down 45 missiles and intercept 266 drones.
The attacks hit 13 regions, including Kyiv.
More than 10 people were killed and dozens were injured in these strikes.
