Russia may be involved in almost 100 incidents in Europe that are classified as hybrid attacks, espionage, or influence operations, according to Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky during a meeting of NATO ministers in Brussels.

According to him, in 2024, about 500 suspicious incidents were recorded in Europe, of which up to 100 hybrid attacks can be directly linked to Russia.

“We need to send a strong signal to Moscow that this won't be tolerated,” the Czech Minister emphasizes.

The NATO meeting also reportedly discussed steps to strengthen collective security and counter hybrid threats.

In addition, the Allies reaffirmed the importance of intelligence sharing and coordinating efforts to combat espionage and disinformation.

Russia's hybrid attacks in Europe

Russia has been actively using hybrid means in Europe, combining cyberattacks, disinformation, espionage, and physical sabotage to destabilize the region.

In 2024, numerous cases were recorded that illustrate the scale of this aggression.

Russian hackers have targeted critical infrastructure, including energy and government systems, in countries such as Poland, Latvia, and Germany. Fake news is also being spread, including numerous cases of anti-Ukrainian propaganda.

Russian agents are also suspected of blowing up underwater communication cables and gas pipelines, particularly in the Baltic region. This forced European countries to sign a treaty to protect underwater infrastructure.

In addition, Russian intelligence services are increasing their influence on local politicians and civil society organizations in Europe. For example, in Moldova, Russians tried to interfere in this year's presidential election.
