On the night of May 16, Russian troops launched 112 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) against Ukraine. Five regions were affected by the attack, according to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).

The drones were attacking from the directions of the Russian cities of Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.

The following forces were involved in repelling the air attack:

  • aviation;
  • anti-aircraft missile troops;
  • electronic warfare units;
  • mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces.

As of 9 a.m. Kyiv time, 73 Shahed and other types of drones were confirmed to have been shot down in eastern, southern, and central Ukraine. Also, 36 imitator drones were lost locally without negative consequences.

The attack affected the following regions:

  • Odesa;
  • Zhytomyr;
  • Chernihiv;
  • Mykolaiv
  • Kyiv.

Attacks against Ukraine

Russia regularly attacks the territory of Ukraine, focusing not only on military targets but also on civilian infrastructure. Residential buildings, hospitals, schools, and energy facilities are often targeted.

The attacks are carried out using various types of weapons - from artillery to ballistic and cruise missiles, air bombs and kamikaze drones. The enemy resorts to launching UAVs almost every night. For example, on the night of May 15, Russian forces launched 110 drones against Ukraine.
