Late on January 21, Russian forces launched an attack on Mykolaiv using Shahed-type combat drones. The assault damaged residential buildings and sparked fires, states Vitalii Kim, head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration.

At approximately 11:07 p.m. in Mykolaiv, explosions were heard. Shortly before that, Ukraine’s Air Force had warned of Shahed combat drones approaching the city from the south. The regional administration later confirmed the attack.

"The Russian forces targeted Mykolaiv with seven Shahed drones. Apartment buildings were damaged, and fires broke out," Vitalii Kim wrote at 11:26 p.m.

He added that emergency services were on the scene, and there was no information about casualties at that time.

Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevich reported on Telegram that efforts to extinguish a fire in an apartment within a multi-story building were ongoing. Hot meals and blankets were being organized for residents.

"A private house has been destroyed. A woman was rescued from the rubble. There’s a reed fire and damage to infrastructure facilities, with fires reported. Rescue teams are also at work," Senkevich added.

Russia's shelling

Earlier that evening, about an hour prior, the enemy launched a Shahed drone attack on a residential area in the city of Sumy. The strike damaged several homes, shattered windows, and pierced a wall.
