The State Emergency Service noted that this is not the first targeted attack on rescue units in the Donetsk region.

Attacks on the Donetsk region

Russian forces regularly shell cities in the Donetsk region, and Druzhkivka has come under fire more than once. For example, in March, an attack on the city injured seven people and damaged at least seven apartment buildings.

On the evening of March 8, Russian invaders also shelled the city of Druzhkivka. As a result of the strikes, seven people were wounded and seven apartment buildings were damaged.

Military analysts and observers refer to Druzhkivka as one of several cities that make up Ukraine’s so-called fortress belt — a 50-kilometer line of four major cities (Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, and Kostiantynivka) that forms the backbone of the Armed Forces’ defense in the Donetsk region.

And at the end of January, Russian forces dropped seven FAB-250 bombs on the city of Kostiantynivka. The attack killed at least two people and injured three others. Among the dead were two men aged 62 and 72. Three women aged 56, 61, and 71 were wounded; the oldest victim was evacuated to a hospital in critical condition.
