Russia attacks civilian vessel in Black Sea, killing captain

On September 17, a Russian drone attacked a civilian vessel flying the Tanzanian flag as it was heading to one of Ukraine's ports, according to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority.
The authority officially confirmed that the latest enemy strike left one person dead and several others injured.
"As a result of the strike, the ship's captain was killed, while three other crew members were injured," the statement said.
The authority also said that information about the condition of the vessel following the Russian attack is still being established.
"We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased. We wish those injured a speedy recovery," the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority's press service added.
The authority also drew the world's attention to the fact that Russia continues to attack Ukrainian ports, port infrastructure and civilian commercial vessels. This poses a serious threat both to people's lives and to international shipping in the Black Sea.
"We expect an appropriate response from the international community and further coordinated action to strengthen the protection of civilian shipping and the safety of international logistics routes," the statement said.
Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration, also reacted to the latest Russian attack. He confirmed the death of the ship's captain, as well as injuries to three other crew members.
"Russia's deliberate attacks on Ukrainian ports and civilian commercial vessels once again confirm that the aggressor country is grossly violating international humanitarian law, posing a threat to people's lives and the safety of international shipping," Kiper wrote.
Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that Turkey had called on Ukraine and Russia to declare a moratorium on strikes in the Black Sea.
We also reported that a Greek vessel carrying Russian oil was attacked in the Black Sea.
