The Russian Foreign Ministry claims that Russia has been invited to participate in the G20 summit in the US at the highest level, which will be held in Miami in December of this year, states Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin.

According to Pankin, the final decision on the trip will be made later.

"There is an invitation to attend at the highest level, but we will see closer to the date; God knows what will happen by then," he told journalists at the UN headquarters.

The G20 leaders' summit will take place in Miami on December 14-15, 2026.

According to Russian media, the Russian delegation gave high praise to the outcomes of the first preparatory meeting of state representatives in Washington.

Earlier, it was reported that the possibility of Russian leader Vladimir Putin's participation in the G20 summit in the US in 2026 depends on the dynamics of Russian-American relations. This statement was made by Svetlana Lukash, Russia's representative to the G20, during events at the UN General Assembly.

However, in March, the Russian leader's press secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that Putin does not plan to attend the G20 in Miami.

G20 Summit

The G20 summit is an annual meeting of leaders of the world's largest economies to discuss key global issues. The summit is held to coordinate economic policy and respond to global crises.

Among the participating countries are the US, China, the EU, India, Japan, and others. Heads of state attend the G20, while ministers conduct parallel negotiations.

G20 decisions influence the global economy, financial markets, and international politics, although they are not legally binding.

In November 2025, it was reported that Donald Trump intended to make the next G20 summit an invitation-only event, even though this would be a direct violation of the regulations.
