Former New York mayor and close Donald Trump associate Rudy Giuliani has been urgently hospitalised in Florida. The 81-year-old politician is in critical condition, according to The Independent.
The reasons for his hospitalisation remain undisclosed for now. Doctors are not releasing a diagnosis, but the patient's condition is being described as serious.
Giuliani's team is calling on supporters to pray. They believe in his recovery.
"Mayor Rudy Giuliani is currently in the hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition," his spokesman said. "Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak."
Trump's reaction: blaming Democrats
The news of Giuliani's illness drew an immediate response from Donald Trump. He published an emotional post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump called the hospitalisation a tragedy and accused political opponents of pressuring Giuliani. In Trump's view, that's what undermined the former mayor's health.
"Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition. What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — And he was right about everything! They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!" the president wrote.
Accident and prior hospitalisations
This is not the first time in recent months that Giuliani has ended up in a hospital bed. His health seriously deteriorated after an incident in August.
At that time, the politician was involved in a serious car accident in New Hampshire. Giuliani suffered severe injuries: a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations, and injuries to his left arm and shin.
Despite this, he managed to attend the September 11 memorial events in New York. However, it seems his body couldn't handle the strain.
Political path and legal battles
Rudy Giuliani was a key figure in Trump's inner circle for many years. He led the legal fight to challenge the results of the 2020 election. Giuliani repeatedly claimed there had been widespread fraud.
The courts never received evidence of a conspiracy. The lawyers relied solely on testimony from supporters.
